New president at Artstone

American Artstone Company of New Ulm has appointed Nick Meyer the company’s new president.

NEW ULM — American Artstone Company of New Ulm has appointed Nick Meyer the company’s new president.

Meyer is originally from rural Fairfax and he attended GFW High School. In high school he developed a fondness for architectural drafting and he took further drafting courses at South Central College. This led directly to a career.

“Right out of college I came to Artstone,” he said.

Meyer started at Artstone 15 years ago as an architectural draftsman. This involved creating blueprints and layout drawings for products. After five years as a draftsman, Meyer took on other responsibilities with the company, including estimates and pricing of projects. Recently, Meyer took over as president on a trial basis, but as of May 1 the Artstone board appointed him president.

A press release from Artstone said the board believes in Meyer’s vision for the direction of the company and his leadership skills.

Meyer said the company saw growth at the start of 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic has paused some of the economy, but Artstone has remained at full staff. New safety protocols were implemented.

The company will weather the pandemic and see where the economy goes from there, he said. Artstone is involved in many projects in Rochester and the Twin Cities. Any project involving stonework in Minnesota could have Artstone’s involvement. Much of Artstone’s work can be seen in Brown County.

“I am proud of the local work we’ve done,” Meyer. said, citing recent work Artstone has done at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Alliance Bank, Frandsen Bank and the German Park Amphitheater.

The best part of the work is completing a product. Meyer said seeing the final end product of their work can be a reward in and of itself.
