NEW ULM — The New Ulm Area Foundation, Inc., has selected Kincaid Diersen to be the 2020 recipient of the Charlotte Raymond Anderson Teaching Scholarship.

This competitive scholarship provides $5,000 to help defray the costs of tuition, books, and related expenditures.

Diersen is a senior at Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School, where he has attained a 3.976 grade point average through 7 semesters, while also participating in multiple extra-curricular activities, volunteering with his church and elementary school, and working part-time. He plans to attend Martin Luther College, where he will study to earn a bachelor’s degree in Science Education, majoring in Life Science and Chemistry.

The Charlotte Raymond Anderson Teaching Scholarship (CRATS) was established in late 2019. Charlotte wanted to support people interested in pursuing excellence in the field of teaching, her life-long passion. She chose the New Ulm Area Foundation, Inc. to manage the fund and selection process.

The rigorous selection process required applicants to complete an application, provide verification of minimum grade point average, an essay describing reasons for choosing a teaching career and/or pursing an advanced teaching degree, letters of recommendation, and letter of acceptance into an accredited college/university program. The selection committee was comprised of representatives from New Ulm Area Foundation, Charlotte’s representatives, and local high school counselors.
