DETROIT, Mich. — A 1963 Chevy 2-door station wagon owned, built and entered by Brad, Brady, and Cory Ranweiler of Show Cars Automotive Inc. of New Ulm won the Detroit Autorama’s highest honor, the Don Ridler Memorial Award Sunday.

Cars built to contend for the Ridler Award are known to be over the top in extreme attention to detail. Not one area of the vehicle was left untouched, beginning with numerous body modifications to the car’s exterior.

“Impressive,” the name of the car, began life as a red, 1963 Chevy 4-door station wagon.

It’s black paint job was done by the Ranweilers with PPG paint products.

Sheetmetal body parts were sourced from Dynacorn with laser cutting by DLC.

Other parts and services for the custom, one-off car were sourced from across the United States.

A Morrison chassis with 14-inch, Wilwood disc brakes on all four wheels came from Washington state.

Evod Industries in California machined a one-off set of wheels mounted on Pirelli tires.

Upholstery work was done by M&M Hot Rod Interiors of Alabama.

Since it’s debut at the 1964 Detroit Autorama, the Ridler is one of the country’s most prestigious automotive awards that concerns custom and hot rod car owners and builders.

Given annually to an exceptional vehicle that falls under strict “never been shown before” guidelines, the winners of this award become members of a very elite group.
