NEW ULM — This time of year, splashpads are not in demand, but in six months that will change and North Park will be ready.

Installation of the North Park splashpad started this week. Last week construction crews prepared the ground, and Tuesday they began staking out the project.

The splashpad will be fully installed before the end of the year, but will not begin operation until warm weather returns. The grand opening of the splashpad is scheduled for Memoirial Day weekend.

The splashpad is described as a playground with water features. A splashpad is an aquatic play feature with no standing water or depth. With no standing water, a lifeguard is not necessary.

The New Ulm City Council authorized accepting a donated splashpad from Barbara Haroldson in November 2018. Last May, it was decided to install the splashpad at North Park between the playground and horseshoe pits.

North Park was chosen for the splashpad because it is near restrooms, has a shelter and does not currently have water amenities.
