Morgan man faces charges for SE incident

SLEEPY EYE — A 32-year-old Morgan man faces six misdemeanor charges following a Sept. 20 incident in Sleepy Eye.

Two counts of fifth-degree assault and disorderly conduct, fourth-degree damage to property and giving a peace officer a false name were filed in Brown County District Court Monday against Gustavo Flores, 116 Fergus Ave. S. in Morgan.

According to court documents, Sleepy Eye Police were on duty at 9:06 p.m. Sept. 20, in Sleepy Eye when they were dispatched to 500 Remmele St. S.W. for a fight. At the scene, police talked to two women who said a man and woman walked across a parking lot when another large man wearing a gray tank top, later identified as Flores, tried to get into a fight with them. The women said Flores poked one of the people in the forehead, encouraging him to fight.

One of the women said she yelled at Flores and he ran at her and her friends, they went inside, he followed them, then punched an outer storm door and broke a window out of the door.

Police went to the damaged apartment and saw damage to the front door and a front screen and window on the ground.

Police later saw a vehicle parked near a police car and an unidentified man driving it said there was a man in the middle of the street near the Del Monte building, yelling.

At about 9:32 p.m., dispatch told police they got a 911 call from a resident on the 800 block of Water Street S.W. who said there was a man yelling between houses that he was going to kill people.

Police went to the location and saw two men. They asked one if he was Flores. The man said his name was Jose. Flores appeared to be intoxicated and angry. Police told him to stop but he continued to a residence.

Brown County deputies arrived to assist and called out for Flores, who continued to shout angrily before getting on the ground as he was told. Deputies had to carry Flores into a squad car. He continued to yell obscenities, hitting his head against a cage in the rear of the squad. He was transported to New Ulm Medical Center due to an ankle injury, given a shot to calm down and released. Flores was then transported to the Brown County Law Enforcement Center.

His bail without conditions was set at $3,000. A court appearance was set for 11:30 a.m. Oct. 7.
