River flood warnings continue

NEW ULM — Flood warnings continue for the Cottonwood River at New Ulm and above Springfield, affecting Brown County, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

The Cottonwood River at New Ulm was measured at 13.84 feet at 3 p.m. Sunday. Moderate flooding is occurring and forecast, causing the closure of Cottonwood Street.

Flood stage is 11 feet. The river will continue to fall below flood stage by Tuesday afternoon. Flood waters impact Cottonwood Street west of the river at 13.1 feet.

The Cottonwood River above Springfield was measured at 25.52 feet at 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Minor flooding is occurring and is forecast. Flood stage is 22 feet. The river will continue to fall below flood stage by late Monday afternoon.

River flood warnings also continue for the Redwood River near Redwood Falls affecting Redwood County and the Minnesota River at Morton, affecting Renville County.

The Redwood River was observed at 8.5 feet at 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Flood stage is six feet. Minor flooding is occurring and forecast until Saturday morning. The Swayback bridge in Redwood Falls is overtopped at 8.5 feet.

The Minnesota River near Morton was observed at 22.84 feet at 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Flood stage is 21 feet. Moderate flood stage is 23 feet. The river is forecast to remain above flood stage for a week or more.
