Dance with Bliss

Staff photo by Clay Schuldt The Find Your Bliss celebration had an emphasis on dancing, because Eden “Bliss” Kalk (center) loves to dance, and Thursday she felt healthy enough to join in the fun.

NEW ULM — Thursday, the community was invited to come together in support of Eden “Bliss” Kalk during a special celebration.

The event was called “Find Your Bliss… Just Dance Fundraiser.” The event was held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the alley and parking lot between New Ulm Wellness Collective and the American Legion at 13 and 15 S. Minnesota Street.

This fundraiser was similar to “Bliss Stock” held last year. The event was to raise money for Bliss Kalk, who was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer nearly two years ago, which metastasized to her liver. A fundraiser was held at Turner Hall to help cover medical expenses.

This year Kalk’s family, friends and co-workers once held a fundraiser, but on a smaller scale.

Find Your Bliss included German food, beer, and soda. There was a silent auction, wine pull, music and of course dancing and more.

“Bliss loves to dance,” Joan Lindholm said.

Lindholm works at the Wellness Center with Kalk. She said the Wellness Center did this fundraiser along with the American Legion because they consider Kalk family and wanted her to continue working with them.

Bliss has worked as a masseuse at the New Ulm Wellness Collective since they started in 2016. One of her specialties is Ashiatsu massage, a Japanese technique using feet. Kalk’s treatment schedule has reduced her work hours.

“We want to raise money for her traveling expenses to Chicago and to pay her rent at The New Ulm Wellness Collective,” Lindholm said. “She is only working a few days a month, but those few days help normalize her life.”

Finding Your Bliss was a fundraiser, but also a fun way to celebrate Bliss Kalk.

The event included live music such as performances from Andrea Lyn at 5 p.m. The dancing got into high gear with Rees DJ playing from 6 p.m. At 7 p.m. Church of Cash with Crista Bohlmann gave a live performance.

The Wellness Center is collecting donations. Guests are encouraged to contribute at gofundme.com/blissheals or write checks to Christ the King Lutheran Church with “Bliss” in the memo and send to the New Ulm Wellness Center 15 S. Minnesota St. New Ulm.
