NEW ULM–The 4-H Livestock Auction was held Friday afternoon at the fairgrounds.

A total of 84 animals were put on the auction block by 4-H members. Sheep and swine had the most entries with 17 each.

This was a switch from last year in which beef and dairy cows had the most entries.

Sheep were going for $236.76 on average. Cassidy Hoffmann made the highest sheep sale to Roseview Farms.

The going price for swine had a greater variety with pigs going selling anywhere from $125 to over $800. Olivia Schieffert showed the swine the highest bid.

A total of 13 beef cows were sold. Samantha Richert and Logan Richert fetched the highest price for their cows. Both cows were purchased by Anderson Farms.

Twelve dairy cows were sold, with a final bid range between $225 and over $600. Crystal Portner cow took the highest bid.

In the rabbit auction, 10 animals were sold. Allison Jensen, Tyler Ibberson, and Jaden Helget each sold a rabbit at $175.

The poultry auction had nine birds on the block, including chickens and ducks. Piper Mangen received the top bid for her duck.

The horse and goat auction were the smallest. Three horses were sold for a combined total of $575 with Cadence Kucera’s pinto receiving the highest bid.

The two goats raised by Greta Bailey and McKenzie Cselovszki sold for $175 each.

The auction is a chance for 4-H youth to practice raising and selling animals for a profit. The majority of the money raised (80 percent) from the auction goes back to the individual 4-H members showing the animals. The remaining 20 percent goes to the 4-H program as a whole.
