NEW ULM — The ISD 88 Foundation and its Alumni Committee has selected four individuals for the 2019 ISD 88 Hall of Fame induction.

The inductees are:

Kathy Bonnifield – Kathy had the opportunity to be a foreign exchange student in Turkey while she was at New Ulm High School. Ever since then this 1990 graduate of NUHS has found opportunities to explore the world and make a difference in it. She’s been a tireless advocate for so many from working in places such as Sri Lanka and Nepal to right here in Minnesota.

Kathy has served in the Peace Corps, worked at the McKnight Foundation, the Center for Victims of Torture, Citizens for Election Integrity Minnesota and the Piper Fund. Kathy has lent her voice to those whose voices are often left unheard. She continues to provide support in areas where social injustices are found. Promoting democracy has become her life’s work and allows Kathy the opportunity to use her skills and experience to help the lives of so many people.

Bradley Isberner – As a 1972 graduate of New Ulm High School, Brad participated in many activities during his time at NUHS, from serving as class vice president to participating in athletics. That fervent drive and ambition was evident in his long and steadfast career in education. Brad has been a coach, teacher, scholar, university professor and director of Driver Education Teacher Preparation. Though he’s retired from St. Cloud State University as a professor, he still continues to give of his time mentoring instructors that have followed in his footsteps there. Brad’s leadership and generous spirit was apparent in his career path in education and continues on even today as he gives of his time to better his community.

Steven Reinhart (deceased) – A 1965 graduate of New Ulm High School, Steve participated in sports, theater and student government. Classmates described him as always willing to help out. That same willingness to help continued throughout his life. Steve’s path after high school was full of many different opportunities to serve from joining the National Guard and serving in Vietnam to becoming a business owner, to tirelessly promoting the city of New Ulm and the community he held so dear. Steve was a passionate man; whether it was in business or helping out one of the many causes that he was enthusiastic about. He made a positive impact on so many people both in New Ulm and beyond. Though he passed away in 2002 the lasting legacy of Steve’s support for our community is still evident in New Ulm today.

Timothy Schuetzle – Tim is 1972 graduate of New Ulm High School, it was during his time there that nurtured his lifelong love of learning, music and sports. His career path in life took him from being a science teacher in Danube, Minn. to warden and director of prisons for North Dakota to a criminal justice teacher and associate professor at the University of Mary in Bismarck, N.D. While he was warden Tim worked endlessly to change the North Dakota prison system through creating a safe environment that fostered the opportunity to address the underlying issues that caused the inmates to be incarcerated in the first place. His work in the North Dakota prison system was instrumental in it having one of the lowest recidivism rates in the country. Tim was named the 1997-1998 American Correctional Association Warden of the Year. While his career included many long days, he still found time to give back to various organizations through volunteering and continues to do so today.

This is the Hall of Fame’s sixth year of induction. The Hall of Fame honors individuals who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their lives or vocation and who have made a difference in the communities in which they live or lived.

The Hall of Fame allows current students an opportunity to understand the value of their education and the possibilities to which it may lead. The Hall of Fame is a way for the school and the community to honor exceptional individuals who, through example, inspire a new generation of students and staff.

An induction ceremony and banquet will be held Saturday, Oct. 5 at New Ulm High School. More information on the ISD 88 Hall of Fame and the event can be found at isd88foundation.org.
