NEW ULM — The season finale of the Summit Avenue Music Series is Sunday, April 14 at 3 p.m. in Martin Luther College’s Chapel of the Christ and features pianist Lydia Artymiw and cellist Wilhelmina Smith. Artymiw and Smith will perform the Beethoven Sonata No. 4 in C Major, Op. 102 No. 1, the Schubert “Arpeggione” Sonata, and Prokofiev Sonata in C Major, Op. 119.

Recipient of the 2015-2016 McKnight Artist Fellowship for Performing Musicians administered by MacPhail Center for Music, cellist Smith made her solo debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra while a student at the Curtis Institute of Music. She has since forged a versatile musical career based on the strength of her beautiful sound, commitment to a vast repertoire and impassioned performances marked by intelligence and integrity.

The recipient of an Avery Fisher Career Grant and the Andrew Wolf Chamber Music Prize, Philadelphia-born Artymiw has performed with over 100 orchestras world-wide including the Boston Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, Seattle Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, Detroit Symphony, LA Philharmonic, Cincinnati Symphony, St. Luke’s Chamber Orchestra, and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra.

Artymiw is Distinguished McKnight Professor of Piano and recipient of the 2015 “Excellence in Graduate Teaching Award” at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, where she has taught since 1989.
