Holy Land Dinner Theater presents ‘Grandad Steps Out’
ST. GEORGE — Dinner theater lovers rejoice. The Church of St. George parish theater group and church volunteers presents “Grandad Steps Out” Saturday, March 30 and April 6 in the church auditorium.
Show night events begin at 5 p.m. with a social hour and a Windsor Chop Dinner at 6 p.m. Curtain time is 7 p.m.
“It’s an old play, no longer in the catalogues we usually use, but the company found books for me. I had one old book,” said director Marianne Bianchi.
The curtain opens to the living room of the Mortons, a home you would think is quiet, normal place to live. Quiet that is, most of the time; but not today.
Grandad (Tom Brown) is unusually ornery. Mrs. Morton (Bonnie Brandel), his caretaker and daughter, is at her wits end. Their helpful maid (Judy Rathmann) is worse than ever in the brain department.
If this isn’t bad enough, the telephone and door bell are having a contest to see which one can ring the most.
Adding to the excitement, the Norwood family just moved into the neighborhood with four children including a 20-year-old son (Bruce Olson), and three daughters (Kylee Nosbush, Abby and Liz Bianchi) who are triplets, confusing grandad who can’t tell them apart and now knows he is going crazy.
Every time grandad looks up, he sees the same girl coming through the door. He’s relieved when Mrs. Morton assures him it’s not the same girl.
As the day progresses, there is more and more company and more confusion. In comes Betty and Kip Shadduck (Deb Mead, Jared Beranek) to visit their grandad.
At the same time, Kip worries if he has enough money since he wanted to take just one girl, not all three, to the movies and see Clark Gable.
But wait, there’s more. Jim Mahoney (Frank Bianchi), a former classmate, comes to surprise grandad and is bound to sneak him along to a party with the old class gang from years ago.
The wives of the class, Abby Higgen and Jobe Feeney (Sue Sieve, Alma Forst), aren’t one bit happy when they learn about the goings on.
The sheriff (Bob Schwab), who thinks he knows it all but doesn’t, is called in.
The play ends on a good note and all live happily ever after.
Tickets are $35 including the Windsor Chop dinner.
