Alice Lind Play Reading Society to read “Streetcar Named Desire”

NEW ULM — In the oppressive heat of post WWII New Orleans, Blanche DuBois attempts to escape from reality and hide in her sister Stella’s life. This attempt is shattered by Stella’s husband, Stanley Kowalski, recently discharged from the army where he served with common-sense distinction.

Stanley’s no-nonsense approach to life quickly bares Blanche’s shortcomings — losing the family plantation, being fired from her teaching position, flirting with alcoholism. His unrelenting drive for the truth sends Blanche over the edge and into a mental breakdown.

The Alice Lind Play Reading Society will read Tennessee William’s play, “A Streetcar Named Desire” on Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. in the Lind House. The event is free and open to the public.
