More than 200 LED light bulbs added to the updated marquee. Building renovation plans include adding a coffee shop and micro-brewery in the former theater building.

SLEEPY EYE — After decades of darkness, the Pix theater marquee is lighting up Main Street in downtown Sleepy Eye.

Credit the dazzling brilliance of 200 LED lights under a renovated marquee to the innovative ideas of Sleepy Eye Medical Center Drs. Karlyn and Adam Armbruster plus the handiwork of local and area contractors.

Marquee restoration planning began last spring. Work including completely rebuilding the exterior structure began last fall.

The Armbrusters are working through the planning and approval process with a number of agencies including the Brown-Nicollet Environmental Health Board. Five county commissioners of both counties oversee staff implementation of ordinances for the regulation of food and beverage establishments, plus other duties.

In addition, the Armbrusters are working with Economic Development Authority (EDA) programs for the project.

The couple is interested in looking at interior and exterior photographs of the former theater from anyone who may have them.

The Armbrusters hope to create a gathering place for people of families and people of all ages.

They said they hope to know more in the coming months just when the business may be open for a cup of coffee or glass of micro-brewed beer.

Meanwhile, interest in the new business grows. For more information, visit “The Pix” on Facebook.
