Gibbon man faces felony domestic assault charges

Davey

NEW ULM — A 23-year-old rural Gibbon man was charged with two counts of felony domestic assault by strangulation and misdemeanor domestic assault in Brown County District Court Tuesday.

Ryan James N. Davey, 32345 611th Ave., Gibbon, was released from the Brown County Jail on $15,000 bail without conditions Tuesday.

According to court documents, New Ulm Police responded to a report of a fight in room 206 at the Microtel Inn & Suites at 1:03 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10. Officers when to room 206 and heard nothing, but heard a male and female arguing next door at room 204. Within a few seconds, a female left the room with a small child.

Police talked with the alleged victim in the hallway and with the biological father of the child, Davey.

The woman said she argued with Davey after he brought up some things about her past. She said he kept “getting up in her face” and she pushed him back to get him away from her. In addition, she said he grabbed the back of her hair and grabbed her throat, so she was unable to breathe for about two seconds, making her feel “lightheaded.”

The woman said Davey choked her a second time while she was holding their child. She admitted fighting back when Davey was physical with her.

The woman showed police two red marks on her throat and a red line on the left side of her cheek. The red marks looked fresh. Police photographed the red marks. The woman declined needing medical attention for her injuries.

In addition, the woman said she tried to leave the hotel during the incident, but Davey held onto her arm, preventing her from leaving and said she was not going to leave with the child he and the woman have in common.
