Rumors of school threat unfounded

NEW ULM — Rumors about a possible threat to the New Ulm High School that came to the attention of school officials last Friday afternoon proved unfounded, said Superintendent Jeff Bertrang in a message to parents.

The school resource officer investigated the information Monday, a staff workshop day, and found no credible information to corroborate a threat, said the message.

Several students were interviewed Monday, as the school would do with any information provided to the school, said the message. Many students said they heard something and that they didn’t hear it from a particular student. Based on the police investigation into the rumored information, officials felt very comfortable with having school Tuesday, said the message. Additional police were on hand at the high school to show students, staff and parents that the school takes all threat information seriously. The school had learned that students and parents were using social media to warn others to stay away Tuesday. Parents who had a concern about school safety were invited to contact the High School or District Office.
