SE man faces felony drug sale charge

Alvarez

NEW ULM — A 23-year-old Sleepy Eye man faces a felony 2nd-degree drug sale charge in Brown County District Court.

Justino Alvarez Jr.,, 409 Main Street E., Sleepy Eye allegedly sold 14.4 grams of methamphetamine to a Brown-Lyon-Redwood-Renville (BLRR) County Drug Task Force (DTF) agent Jan. 30 in Sleepy Eye.

A charge of selling 10 grams or more of a narcotic other than heroin within a 90-day period was filed Monday against him. A bail hearing was set for 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

According to court documents, the BLRR DTF used an undercover agent (UC) and confidential informant (CI) who introduced the agent to the suspect about buying a half-ounce of meth for $400 from Alvarez at a Sleepy Eye residence on Jan. 30.

The CI contacted Alvarez who directed the CI and UC to a Sleepy Eye residence. Alvarez arrived in a vehicle registered to a known female, but appeared to have a male driver. The agent overheard the deal being made, after being fitted with an electronic recording/transmitting device. After the deal was made, the UC gave the agent a clear plastic container containing a crystal-like substance that weighed 14.4 grams and later field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
