Cathedral High principal resigns

Cites personal reasons

NEW ULM — William Schumacher, principal at Cathedral High School in New Ulm, has resigned as principal for personal reasons, the New Ulm Area Catholic Schools announced.

Schumacher, who had served as principal for two years, resigned on Tuesday, Oct. 2, according to a statement from NUACS.

“We thank Mr. Schumacher for his two years of service to New Ulm Area Catholic Schools and wish him well,” the statement said. “Mr. Alan Woitas will serve as high school administrator and will continue with his current duties as Activities Director and math teacher at Cathedral High School. Mrs. Shelly Bauer, elementary principal, will assist with K-12 administrative duties.”

A decision on whether to hire a replacement will be made later by the NUACS school board, said Sarah Reiland, director of development and marketing for NUACS.

“In the interim we are confident in our team and that they will provide a strong, faith-filled academic experience for our students,” Reiland said.

Schumacher had no other comment when contacted on Wednesday.
