Sleepy Eye man faces domestic assault charges

Bail set at $60k

NEW ULM — A 24-year-old Sleepy Eye man faces felony domestic assault and gross misdemeanor domestic assault, subsequent violation, charges for allegedly punching the mother of his child in the mouth, in the left side of her face and twice in the back of the head in New Ulm Aug. 21.

Charges were filed in Brown County District Court Friday against Felipe A. Hinojosa, 700 Walnut St. S.W., Sleepy Eye. His bail was set at $60,000 and he remains in the Brown County Jail.

According to court documents, New Ulm Police responded to a domestic assault report Aug. 21 and that Hinojosa left with a witness in a red 2004 Ford Focus. Assisted by Brown County Sheriff’s Office staff, police met with the victim inside her New Ulm apartment. She told police Hinojosa came to her place to pick up some clothes, that he was using drugs heavily recently and she didn’t want him holding their child in fear some of the drugs would absorb through the skin.

The woman said she got her child back from Hinojosa and asked him to leave several times before he punched her in the mouth, then in the left side of the face and twice in the back of the head. The woman had a small cut to the inside of her upper lip and discoloration and swelling to the left side of her face. Police photographed her injuries.

The woman said she was holding their child when she was assaulted and that she didn’t know where Hinojosa would go. He has two prior qualified domestic violence offense convictions or adjudications of delinquency within the past 10 years.
