SE man faces domestic assault charge

Bail set

at $30K

NEW ULM — A 37-year-old Sleepy Eye man was charged with a felony domestic assault for allegedly coming home drunk and assaulting his wife in Sleepy Eye Aug. 22.

Bail was set at $30,000 for Enrique Flores Sr., 833 Water St. S.W. He bailed out of jail Monday.

According to court documents, a woman knocked on the police department door on Aug. 22, and she and her family were invited inside. Police noticed she had marks on her neck and blood on her left earlobe.

A translator later arrived and the victim was interviewed. She said her husband, Flores, came home drunk and screaming, calling her a liar and cheater, then began choking her with his hand, causing her to fear for her safety. She said several children were present or at home during the assault.

Police photographed the woman’s injuries including multiple scratches on her neck and a scrape with blood on and below her left earlobe.

Later Flores came home. Police told him to leave the house but he refused. Flores stood in the doorway, preventing two large pitbulls from exiting the residence. Police felt unsafe and drew a taser due to Flores not following commands.

Police told Flores to exit the house or be tasered. Police handcuffed Flores and arrested him.
