DECATUR COUNTY-Former New Ulm resident Paul Charles Griebel, 62, died Thursday in a vehicle accident in Iowa.

Griebel was driving a semi for 5 Star Trucking Inc. on Interstate 35 when he collided with a second truck.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, around 11: 30 a.m. a truck traveling north was pulling a directional arrow sign telling drivers to merge into the left lane of I-35. Griebel did not merge and struck the truck and its trailer. Griebel’s vehicle entered the ditch and rolled. Griebel was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

Griebel grew up and went to school in New Ulm. He moved to the Twin Cities after graduation. He was living in Savage. Griebel visited New Ulm for a class reunion last week.
