Hermann opening postponed
NEW ULM — Hermann Monument’s normal annual summer seasonal opening beginning with weekends in May is postponed, due to a comprehensive historic building conditions assessment.
The City of New Ulm, in conjunction with a grant from the State of Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund through the Minnesota Historical Society, has begun phase one of the monument’s future restoration.
Phase one includes the assessment, along with a structural and safety review. This work will determine the scope and details of the monument’s restoration plan. Future phases will include at least a formulation of the detailed restoration plan and restoration.
As soon as the structural and safety review is complete, and the monument is deemed safe, the monument will open to the public. This is anticipated to happen sometime during the first half of summer.
