Park and Rec presents Children’s Theater
NEW ULM — This Friday the New Ulm Park and Recreation will present the Children’s Theater production of “Rumpelstiltskin is My Name.”
The play includes a cast of 16 kids ages six through 13. Some of the older students are veterans of the Children’s Theater, while some are new to the stage.
Director Jenny Spurgin has served as the choreographer for the Park and Rec Children’s Theater for the last several years. This is her first time as director.
Spurgin said this is a unique production in that this is the first time the Children’s Theater has used costumes. Past productions used minimal costuming. Basically the kids wore name tags identifying their characters.
Wednesday was the last day of rehearsals for the play. Park and Rec Supervisor Joey Schugel brought the cast and crew production shirts to celebrate. The color gold was specifically chosen to reference Rumpelstiltskin’s ability to spin straw into gold.
The play performance will be held at 7 p.m. at the Community Center. The public is invited to attend. It will be free to the public.
