Summit Avenue Music Series presents Peter McGuire and Friends on Sunday

Peter McGuire

NEW ULM — The Summit Avenue Music Series (SAMS) Season Finale presents Peter McGuire and Friends on Sunday, March 26 at 3 p.m. at the Chapel of the Christ on the campus of Martin Luther College in New Ulm.

The SAMS final concert of the season features violinist Peter McGuire, a native of Minnesota who has performed with some of the finest orchestras in the world. He was a member of the Minnesota Orchestra from 2003 to 2012 before moving to Switzerland where he served as Second Concertmaster with the Tonhalle Orchester-Zürich for three years. While in Switzerland, he also performed in other European orchestras. Currently, he is Principal Second Violinist with the Minnesota Orchestra. The concert also includes his brother, violinist Colin McGuire and friends, pianist Bethel Balge, violist Kenneth Freed, cellist Sharon Mautner-Rodgers, and double-bassist Rolf Erdahl, and soprano Jennifer Haugen.

The performance features some of the most loved chamber music by Franz Schubert, including the string quartet “Death and the Maiden” and the Trout Piano Quintet. Death and the Maiden is Schubert’s testament to death and was written after the composer suffered his own life-threatening illness. The program concludes with a pillar of chamber music, the Trout Piano Quintet, named after a song Schubert wrote entitled “The Trout”.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students (with ID) and children and may be purchased at the door on the day of the concert. For more information, visit www.summitavenuemusic.com.

Starting at $4.50/week.
