A Walnut Grove man died in a two-vehicle accident on Sunday afternoon near Walnut Grove, according to the Redwood County Sheriff’s Office.

Khamtane Yang, 71, of Walnut Grove, was the driver of a 2003 Toyota Sienna Sport Van that collided with a 1994 Volvo semi tractor trailer driven by Walter Story, 77, of Walnut Grove.

Yang was airlifted from the accident scene and later died.

The accident occurred at 3:25 p.m. on County Road 5, two miles north of Walnut Grove.

Story and three children in the sports van, Ricky Yang, 12; Robert Yang, 6; and James Yang, 4; sustained injuries and were transported to the Avera Hospital in Tracy. Three of the four victims were later flown to another medical facility for their injuries.

The accident is being investigated by the Redwood County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota State Patrol.

Both vehicles were totaled in the accident.
