CITY OF NEW ULM

NOTICE OF DRAFT

ENVIRONMENTAL

ASSESSMENT FOR

PUBLIC REVIEW &

OPPORTUNITY FOR

A PUBLIC HEARING

FOR NEW ULM MUN-

ICIPAL AIRPORT

CROSSWIND RUN-

WAY RELOCATION

Notice is hereby given

that the City of New

Ulm has published a

draft federal Environ-

mental Assessment

(EA) for the New Ulm

Municipal Airport Turf

Crosswind Runway

Relocation. In accor-

dance with its respon-

sibilities under the Na-

tional Environmental

Policy Act (NEPA), the

Federal Aviation Ad-

ministration (FAA) re-

quires the City to com-

plete an EA. During the

EA process, the City

and its airport consul-

tant evaluated the en-

vironmental, economic,

and social impacts of

the proposed develop-

ment. The results of

the analysis are pub-

lished in the Draft EA

document. The docu-

ment is available for

public review online at

www.newulmmn.gov/

251/Municipal-Airport,

and in-person at the

New Ulm City Hall –

Engineering Depart-

ment, from 8 a.m. to

4:30 p.m. Monday

through Friday.

The City, as the Airport

Sponsor, intends to un-

dertake a project that

would relocate the turf

crosswind runway as

proposed by the 2023

Airport Master Plan.

The United States

Congress directed

funding to the City for

this relocation. The

project includes

designing and con-

structing a new turf

crosswind Runway

9/27 and associated

storm water infrastruc-

ture, decommissioning

the existing turf

crosswind Runway

4/22, realigning a por-

tion of Taxiway A, and

acquiring approximate-

ly 25.2 acres of fee

simple land. The pro-

ject includes wetland

impacts to an estimat-

ed 0.05 acre of del-

ineated wetland. This

project is consistent

with the airport zoning

that was previously ap-

proved by the Joint Air-

port Zoning Board in

July 2022.

A public hearing will be

held if there is a re-

quest for one. The

hearing’s purpose

would be to address

the proposed action’s

potential economic, so-

cial, and environmental

impacts, and the

project’s consistency

with the goals and ob-

jectives of the City of

New Ulm’s land use

strategy. Anyone in-

terested in the project

has until February 9,

2025, to request a pub-

lic hearing. Requests

for a public hearing

must be submitted via

email to

colleen.bosold@

meadhunt.com or by

phone/voicemail at

952-641-8826.

The public comment

period for the Draft

EA closes at 11:59

ary 24, 2025. Written
