Woman dies from injuries in train derailment

MEXICO CITY (AP) — A woman has died from injuries sustained in last weekend’s train derailment in southern Mexico, raising the death toll to 14. Mexico’s Navy, which operates the train, announced Thursday that the 73-year-old had been receiving treatment since the derailment of the Interoceanic Train on Sunday. The train connects the states of Oaxaca and Veracruz. The accident occurred near Nizanda, Oaxaca, with over 100 people injured among the 250 on board. Images showed train cars below a steep hill and toppled in dense jungle. President Claudia Sheinbaum said Tuesday that the crash’s cause is under investigation, and officials are seeking safety improvements.
