Qatar could mediate US military actions
BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) — Colombian President Gustavo Petro has proposed that Qatar could mediate to end the U.S. military presence in international waters near Venezuela. He made this suggestion on Thursday during a trip to Brussels. Petro says Colombians may have been aboard a small boat the U.S. attacked last week, alleging it was carrying drugs. The U.S. disputes Petro’s assertion that Colombians were aboard the boat. A White House official says the U.S. values its partnership with Colombia despite policy differences. Petro criticizes the U.S. military actions as disproportionate and advocates for negotiating with drug trafficking organizations. Qatar has not yet commented on the proposal.
