• Two felony theft charges were filed Oct. 23, 2023 against Lorin Lee Helget, 66, 24795 150th Street, Sleepy Eye. A first appearance Zoom hearing was set for 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2023.

According to court documents, Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Justin Bauer was dispatched to 24795 150th Street, Albin Township for a reported horse trailer theft at 9:04 a.m. Oct. 4, 2023. The complainant, Amber Ouellete, said her horse trailer, a maroon 1998 Sundowner Trail Duster, valued at $4,000; was last seen on the property at about 11 p.m. Oct. 3, 2023 and that Helget’s tractor was present.

At 11:31 a.m. Oct. 4, Brown County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Andrew Konechne, Deputies Justin Kitzberger and Bauer executed a search warrant and found the horse trailer in a machine shed on Helget’s property. Helget admitted he was upset and took the trailer the previous day.

• Gross misdemeanor 3rd-degree DWI and misdemeanor 4th-degree DWI charges were filed Oct. 26, 2023 against Jeremy Anton Current, 52, 2 Park Lane, New Ulm. A first appearance Zoom hearing was set for 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2023.

New Ulm Police Patrol Officer Trevor Kruse responded to a driving complaint near Park Lane and 7th Street North at 6:22 p.m. Oct. 6, 2023. The complainant said her boyfriend, later identified as Current was drunk and driving his motorcycle. Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Justin Bauer said he saw a motorcycle matching the description of Current driving 44 mph in a 30 mph zone on Highland Avenue.

Officer Kruse stopped the motorcycle and noticed Current’s intoxication clues. A preliminary breath test registered .173%. Current was arrested and transported to the Brown County Jail. A urine sample collected within two hours of the traffic stop showed a .162% ethyl alcohol concentration.

• Felony threats of violence and two gross misdemeanor domestic assault charges were filed Oct. 24, 2023 against Timothy Elliott Aleman, 33, 411 1st Avenue North, Sleepy Eye. According to court documents, Sleepy Eye Police Officer Amber Meyer took a call from a disabled man on Oct. 21, 2023 who talked about his brother, Aleman, whom he said spit in his face, threw a pumpkin at him and punched him.

The victim said Aleman was aggressive and controlling toward victim 2, who told officer Meyer Aleman threatened to cut the second victim’s throat and that Aleman was seen “shooting up” meth two days ago. The first victim said Aleman just hit the second victim with his car.

Officer Meyer drove to the address where Aleman told her the first victim was starting problems between he and his wife. Officer Meyer noticed red marks and swelling on the woman’s hand and on her left side. Meyer noticed a large, swollen mark on the left side of the first victim’s face.

Aleman was convicted of felony domestic assault in Crow Wing County Court on Jan. 25, 2016.
