• Two 3rd-degree gross misdemeanor DWI charges were filed Oct. 10, 2023 against Victoria E. Raatz, 21, 107 Sunset Ave., Hanska. According to court documents, New Ulm Police saw a vehicle touch a lane marker at Center and Broadway, then cross over 10 lane marking stripes for a half block at 1:11 a.m., Sept. 16, 2023.

Police stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as Raatz who showed alcohol impairment clues. She admitted to drinking and failed a series of field sobriety tests. Raatz provided a preliminary breath test read .167% and she was arrested and transported to the Brown County Jail. A Datamaster test at jail registered .16% after Raatz was read the Minnesota Motor Vehicle Implied Consent Advisory and submitted to the test within two hours of the traffic stop.

• Two 3rd-degree DWI charges were filed Oct. 10, 2023 against Connor J. Schiller, 21, 511 10th Street, Lafayette. According to court documents, police responded to State Street and 4th South at 1:26 a.m. Sept. 16, 2023 after a caller reported a loud noise and saw a vehicle dragging car parts down the street.

Police found fresh scuff-marks near 4th South and Franklin and saw a black Volkswagon Passat parked across from 405 S. Franklin St. The vehicle dome light was on, airbags were deployed, an open can of Busch Light was in the center console and the car had extensive front end damage.

Police ran vehicle registration and learned the vehicle was registered to Schiller, who lived nearby. Police knocked on the door at 405 S. Franklin and Schiller came out to talk with police, showing alcohol impairment. Schiller said his left arm hurt which police said was common with vehicle airbag deployment.

Schiller admitted to drinking a beer and nine or ten hard alcoholic beverages from 9 p.m. until 12:30 a.m. He failed a series of field sobriety tests. A Datamaster alcohol test Schiller submitted to at the Brown County Jail registered .18%. Police found dust and smoke in the vehicle from airbag deployment and vehicle keys on Schiller.
