• Gross misdemeanor driving under the influence of a controlled substance and 3rd-degree DWI charges were filed June 20, 2023 against Brooke A. Thedens, 28435 670th Ave. St. James.
According to court documents, New Ulm Police K9 officer Andrew Kuester was on routine patrol near Broadway and 7th St. N. at 8:12 pm. Feb. 6, 2023 when he saw a vehicle cross over the fog line twice in front of him. The suspect vehicle turned west onto 5th St. N., crossing over the center line and had a taillight that did not work and a crooked license plate.
Officer Kuester stopped the vehicle and smelled a strong marijuana odor coming from it. He also saw a clear baggie containing a green, leafy substance that appeared to be marijuana and a one-hitter pipe used to smoke marijuana. He identified the driver as Thedens, noticed intoxication clues, arrested her and took her to the New Ulm Medical Center for a blood draw.
Officer Kuester applied for and received a signed search warrant to sample Thedens’ blood or urine. The sample was provided, sealed and sent to the Minnesota BCA for analysis that showed amphetamine, Delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabigerol (CBG). She was convicted of DWI in Brown County Court May 3, 2021.
• Gross misdemeanor 3rd-degree DWI-rest refusal and 4th-degree DWI charges were filed June 20, 2023 against Dominic A. Faerber, 57, 518 Front St. N., New Ulm.
According to court documents, New Ulm Police Officer Tyler Forrest was on routine patrol near 7th North St. at 1:25 a.m., May 12, 2023 when he saw a tan 2004 Chevy Silverado cross the fog line near the 7th North St. roundabout.
Officer Forrest followed the vehicle and stopped it at 7th North St. and Front St. N. He identified the driver as Faerber. Talking with Faerber, officer Forrest noticed intoxication clues. A preliminary breath test read a .087 alcohol concentration. Faerber was arrested and taken to the Brown County Jail where he stopped and started his breath several times during a DMT test.
