Brown County District Court
• Charges of felony stalking and five counts of felony harassment-aggravated violations-by false impersonation were filed April 6 against Jordan J. Burden, 29, 232 Main Street East, Sleepy Eye. Bail was set at $25,000 without conditions; no bail with conditions that include no contact with victim(s), not entering victim’s residence or within 50 feet and notifying probation by April 10 of release of any computer data devices or Internet-capability devices – Smart TVs, cell phones, etc. The devices are subject to search by probation and law enforcement.
According to court records, New Ulm Police Investigator Tara Martin met Feb. 6, 2023 with a woman about ongoing harassment. The woman said she was contacted Jan. 9, 2023 by an individual on Snapchat who found her by search, and she was eventually contacted by five unknown phone numbers.
Upon investigation, all the phone numbers were found to be associated with Jordan J. Burden.
The woman said she was contacted by one of the unknown phone numbers associated with Burden Jan. 17, 2023 and was asked in messages what it will take to go on a date with her and threatened to tell her dirty secrets.
The woman and Burden are co-workers. After receiving messages for about a week from an individual who said his name was “Cole” he mentioned someone the woman knew. Then she was not doing well due to the harassment, which she said caused her to have suicidal ideas.
On Feb. 4, the woman said she was awakened at about 2:30 a.m. by Burden with a message from “Anthony S,” Burden’s alleged step-brother.
Investigator Martin used screen schots from the victim’s phone while she navigated her phone, capturing 71 screen shots. The victim told Martin all the individuals she spoke with about on-going harassment and that Burden was the only one who had not advised her to contact law enforcement.
On March 1, 2023, Investigator Martin received a Verizon Wireless fax with subpoena results for Burden’s phone number. On April 4, 2023, Investigator Martin received Verizon Wireless records for IP addresses associated with various numbers used to contact the victim.
Data showed Burden’s known phone number accessed the Verizon network and used the same address as numbers utilized.
