Court Proceedings

Brown County District Court

• A charge of Third-degree assault-substantial bodily harm and two counts of felony domestic assault were filed April 4, against Jeremy L. Ibarra, 22, 826 Sunrise Dr., New Ulm.

According to court documents, New Ulm Police were dispatched to a medical call of a person bleeding from the head due to a fight at 1219 S. Jefferson at 2:26 a.m. April 1, 2023. At the residence, a woman with a red mark around her neck, consistent with being choked, a swollen face and bleeding from the back of her head, said Ibarra assaulted her.

An ambulance arrived and the woman was treated and taken to the hospital before police entered the residence and found a table flipped over, broken items on the floor and blood on the bathroom sink and floor.

Officer Sara Pruett talked with Ibarra who said they had a “scuffle.” Ibarra said the woman pushed him and he used MMA fighting techniques to hold her. Ibarra said the back of his head hit a wall but no injury or redness was seen on him. Ibarra said the woman could have been injured in the scuffle or she did it to herself.

Police asked where the woman’s glasses were because she wanted them before going to the hospital. Ibarra got upset, stood up, took a fighting stance and yelled at police to stop searching his house. Police said nobody was searching the house.

A male who called police about the incident told Officer Chris Davis he was sleeping in his bedroom when he was awakened by an argument at about 2 a.m., he went upstairs and saw the woman lying motionless in the kitchen. He tired to wake her but she was unconscious.

The male said Ibarra tried to taunt him and began throwing things at him and the woman who was hit in the head by one of the thrown items before he called 911 for help.

At New Ulm Medical Center, the woman told Officer Christina Wright that Ibarra is her ex-boyfriend, he began arguing and grabbed her by the hair, she tried to get him off her and fell.

“I just felt like something hit me so hard, I just saw black and white and went to the ground,” she said. The woman had a severe laceration and swelling on the back of her head.

Ibarra was convicted of domestic assault Nov, 5, 2019 and violating a no contact order Jan. 5, 2022.

• Charges of felony 2nd-degree assault-dangerous weapon and misdemeanor domestic assault were filed April 4, 2023 against James J. Ludewig, 35, 20449 230th Ave., Sleepy Eye.

According to court documents, Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Eric Schwarzrock responded to a reported domestic disturbance at 20449 230th Avenue, Sleepy Eye at 10:40 a.m. April 3. A 911 caller said Ludewig threatened her with a knife before dispatch lost contact with the alleged victim.

Schwarzrock arrived at the residence and saw a broken dog feeder and broken mop on the kitchen floor. Ludewig’s voice was heard from the second floor. The woman appeared to be in emotional distress, breathing heavily and said she stayed with Ludewig for about three weeks but they were arguing consistently.

The woman said before she called 911, Ludewig was nearby pointing a kitchen knife at her and said something like “get my f-ing dog back.” She said Ludewig put the knife down when she called 911.

She told Schwarzrock she locked herself in a bedroom when Ludewig began throwing items in the house, yelling and breaking a dog feeder in the kitchen.
