Court Proceedings

Brown County District Court

• A felony carry/possess pistol without permit-public place-second or subsequent time charge was filed July 22 against Lonnie D. Brandes, 54, 53616 422nd St., New Ulm. A bail hearing and violation hearing for another case including felony carry/possess pistol without permit-public place was set for 11:45 a.m. July 23.

According to the complaint, New Ulm Police were advised at 5:30 p.m., July 21 that Brandes had a Brown County active body-only warrant for carrying/possessing pistol without a permit and fourth-degree DWI.

Police went to the New Ulm Econo Lodge to attempt to contact Brandes when they heard a door open. Police saw Brandes leave his room, then attempt to go back inside when he saw officers.

Police grabbed Brandes’ arms and arrested him. During a search, police removed a loaded Glock handgun and two magazines from a pouch on his right hip.

In Brandes’ room, police saw two ammunition shells, different from the ammunition for the Glock handgun that was removed from Brandes. He told police the shells were for a 410 weapon.

Police learned that Brandes had an interim court condition prohibiting him from possessing/carrying a hand gun or dangerous weapon without a permit. He still does not have a permit to carry such weapons.

Brandes was previously convicted of carrying a pistol without a permit, a gross misdemeanor, on Oct. 21, 2020.
