Brown County District Court

A felony charge of violating a domestic abuse no contact order (DANC0) within 10 years of the first of two more more convictions was filed against Matthew A. Penkert, 26, 200 E. 3rd St. March 15. A bail hearing was set for 11:30 a.m. March 16.

According to court documents, A woman reported an active DANCO violation to Springfield Police at 2:25 p.m. March 14. The woman said the alleged victim was staying with her until she found a new place to live and that she had an active DANCO against Penkert issued March 5, 2021 in Brown County District Court.

The woman told police Penkert sent her a Facebook message request on March 5 after she picked up the alleged victim and after Penkert was released from jail. The woman said Penkert messaged her about the alleged victim’s property and mail at the house and that she and Penkert arranged for him to stop the victim’s belongings off at the Brown County Sheriff’s Office.

After Penkert dropped off the property, he continued to contact the woman about how much he missed the alleged victim and the situation between them. She said Penkert asked her to contact the victim for him.

The alleged victim told police she was afraid of what Penkert would do if she reported anything, that he may get aggressive, that he abused and strangled her in the past and that she was afraid to fill out a written statement.

Penkert was convicted of stalking-intent to injure Nov. 12, 2019 and convicted of threats of violence Aug. 31, 2020, in Brown County Court. Both convictions are qualified, domestic offenses.
