• Daniel R. Earl, 48, 1100 16th St. N., New Ulm, was charged with two counts of felony 5th-degree drug possession-not small amount of marijuana, misdemeanor drug possession-over 1.4 grams marijuana in motor vehicle and expiration of driver’s license-over 21 July 9.

According to court documents, New Ulm Police were on patrol on South Bridge Street at 2:50 a.m. July 7 when a white pickup was observed traveling north on South Bridge Street, turned left and did not signal or the signal did not work properly. Police later saw the truck stopped in the driving lane, then turned into the Best Western Plus parking lot without signaling.

Police stopped the suspect vehicle and smelled a marijuana odor coming from the vehicle interior. The driver was identified as Earl who admitted he had some marijuana in his pocket and a “pot pipe” in the truck that was found in the driver’s seat.

Police searched the vehicle and found a pill bottle with nine pills marked “alza 27” that were later identified as a Schedule II controlled substance, also known as Concerta (27 mg). Police also found several small plastic baggies with a trace amount of a white, powdery substance. Police weighed the suspect marijuana at about 1.6 grams. The substance tested positive for THC. Another substance NIK tested positive for amphetamine and weighed about .4 grams.
