• Taylor M. Rawson, 28, Amana, Iowa, was charged with two counts of gross misdemeanor 2nd-degree DWI March 26. According to court documents, New Ul Police responded to a complaint of a pickup truck doing “donuts” in the Microtel hotel parking lot at 2:15 a.m. March 24. The caller said the vehicle with an Iowa license plate was tearing up grass in the parking lot, then driven to the Hy-Vee Foods store and parked. Vehicle occupants were described as two males in very colorful clothing.
Police went to Hy-Vee and found two males wearing brightly-colored sweatshirts in the store. A man identified as Rawson, admitted to driving from the Microtel hotel to the store. Police detected an alcoholic beverage odor coming from him. He admitted he had a couple beers. He failed a horizontal gaze nystagmus test and a preliminary breath test and was arrested. A breath sample for analysis taken at 3:30 a.m. showed an alcohol concentration of .16 grams per 210 liters of breath.
Rawson’s driving record showen a qualified prior impaired driving incident, operating while intoxicated on May 20, 2013 in Iowa.
