SLEEPY EYE — Motor vehicles on private property must be registered as of Dec. 22, 2023, according to a blight ordinance amendment approved by the Sleepy Eye City Council Nov. 14.

Action came on a motion by councilor Doug Pelzel, seconded by Gary Windschitl to approve the second reading or Ordinance 222 amending blight conditions-motor vehicles, equipment and junk in the city code, considered to be in the public interest.

Sleepy Eye Police Chief Matt Andres said residents are not cited for blight violations without a number of warnings.

The city council tabled a new police fee schedule for more research on how to structure changes. The proposal included fees of $20 for dog pickup, a $10 per dog daily pound fee after the first day, a $5 report fee, $20 fingerprint fee and $125 for new body cam/in-squad camera video.
