Sleepy Eye Summerfest starts Friday
SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye Summerfest begins at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 18 with Kid’s Day at Eagles Park.
Events include track and field events with the River Valley track team at 1 p.m. Friday. Kids activities with Early Childhood Family Education, Sleepy Eye FFA and other groups will be at the park. The Sleepy Eye Baseball Association will serve burgers, hotdogs, 1919 Root Beer and beer at the ballpark until 4 p.m.
A classic car and cycle cruise-in will be held 4:30 to 8 p.m. downtown. A metal sculpture contest presentation starts at 6 p.m. in Veterans Park on Main Street, downtown.
Heide and the Good Ole Boys will perform at a street dance in front of the Serviceman’s Club on 1st Avenue South from 7-11 p.m. The Servicemen’s Club hosts a burger feed at 5 p.m.
Saturday events begin at 8 a.m. with the “Of Kolsch You Can 5k” at Allison Park. A kids run for ages 1-12 starts at 9 a.m.
Pork & Pints in the park features the Rock of Ages band from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and the Black Diamond Band from 1:30-3 p.m.
Four food trucks — Taqueria Las 3 Lunas’s Lola’s, Evan’s Eatery and Angela’s Egg Rolls will appear at the park. Other food options are Knights of Columbus bison burgers and pork chops on a stick. Desserts include the St. John’s Pie Stand, Sweet Kettle Madness and Now That’s Waffles.
Attractions include axe throwing, rock wall climbing, monkey jumping, face painting, glitter tattoos, pig exhibits and a craft and maker market. The Little Crow Ski Team show takes place 3-4:30 p.m. on the east side of Sleepy Eye Lake.
The Grand Parade follows on 1st Avenue South from 6-8 p.m.
The Band AZBY performs 8-11 p.m. at Sleepy Eye Brewing. DJ & Karaoke perform at the Sleepy Eye Servicemen’s Club.
A bass fishing tournament at Sportsman’s Park is set for 7 a.m. to noon Sunday.
