Park & Rec Report

Civic Center Independence Weekend Hours. We are closing at 4 p.m. on Friday, July 2, all day July 3 and 4. Monday, July 5 we will be open from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Civic Center is open for fitness and walking through noon on Monday July 19. Fitness equipment will not be available after noon on Monday July 19. We will be announcing opening of the new Wellness Center located at the Recreation Center soon.

Hours are Monday through Thursday 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday 5 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 7 a.m. to noon, Sunday 12 to 6 p.m. Everyone entering must do a self-screening at the door prior to entering and leave if answering yes to any of the questions. Check in at the Welcome desk. Bring your own water bottle; water fountains remain turned off. Check the website for open skate/ hockey dates/times. Civic Center Hours for Independence weekend will be Friday, July 2 from 5 a.m.-4 p.m., CLOSED on Saturday and Sunday, July 3 and 4 and Monday, July 5 from 7 a.m.-1 p.m.

Community Concert series — German Park This week’s entertainment will be by the Sleepy Eye Concertina Club starting at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 5. Catch a Puppet Wagon show at 6:15 p.m.! The next Municipal Band Concert will be Wednesday, July 21 at 7 p.m. Concerts are free and open to the public. Performances continue every Monday at 7 p.m. throughout the summer. The Puppet Wagon Schedule: German Park Mondays at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday performances are at Harman Park at 9:30, Highland Park at 10:15 and Lincoln Park at 11 a.m. Thursday performances are at Washington Park at 9:30, North Park at 10:15 and Hermann Heights Park at 11 a.m. The Puppet Wagon has a long history of entertaining all ages through skits, songs and silly dances. Shows run 20-30 minutes and are a summertime favorite! The Puppet Wagon is co-sponsored by Healthy Communities/Healthy Youth and their S.P.O.T.S. program.

Rec on the Go is a mobile program that travels to parks and provides FREE activities weekly. Park and Rec staff lead games, crafts and more at designated times. Staff is not responsible for youth after the vehicle and staff exit the site. They are at Harman Park on Mondays from 10:30 a.m. to noon and Lincoln Park from 12:30-2 p.m. Tuesdays they are at North Park from 10:30 to noon and Nehls Park from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Thursdays they are at Washington Park from 10:30 a.m. to noon and Riverside Park from 12:30 to 2 p.m. This program is made possible through a partnership with New Ulm Area Community Education and Park and Rec.

Youth Day Camps – The Park and Rec Camp Programs provide a fun and safe environment for kids to socialize, be creative and imaginative, and get plenty of exercise. Our fun staff will create a positive, exciting atmosphere in which to lead children through a variety of games, projects, arts, crafts and challenges. Splashpad at North Park is open daily 10 a.m.-8 p.m. It may close for maintenance or severe weather.

Wading Pools at Washington and Lincoln Park are open daily 12:30-6 p.m. Pools do not open if air temperature is below 72 degrees or inclement weather.

Hermann Monument is open daily 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Please follow COVID protocols In place for visiting the monument, including social distancing. Admission is $3 per person. For rentals outside of regular hours contact lizm@newulmmn.gov for rates and availability.

Fitness Classes continued to be offered with membership or $5 walk-in fee. Check the schedule at newulmmn.gov for dates, times, location and Zoom options. Online, advance 24-hour pre-registration required for Zoom access to Weekend Warrior Classes and Zumba. Reach out to sandyb@newulmmn.gov or 233-2121, extension 204 to get a link added for a class.

The Community Center — CAST Activities have resumed and the Center is open for activities and programming! Please call 354-3212 or email castnu@newulmtel.net with questions. Meals for shut ins and takeout are available by calling 359-2243.

Rec Center Construction Update — work continues on the pool; the deck is partially poured and tile, mechanical equipment is underway. Playground installation is in progress. All painting and cleaning is complete. Exterior lighting, sidewalks and curb is in progress and pavement will be laid soon. See construction photos on our Facebook page. Stay tuned for Wellness Center opening dates.

Memorial/Gift Giving Ideas — purchase one or more paver stone(s) with your inscription(s), in the walkways near Hermann Monument and/or German Park for $200 each, contact the Park & Rec office at 359-8344. Park or trail benches range in price from $1,500 to $3,500 each, call 359-8344.

Riverside Environmental Learning Center is open Saturdays and Sundays 1 p.m.- 4 p.m.
