Park & Rec Report

The Indoor Pool will be closed for annual maintenance Monday, Aug. 27 through Monday, Sept. 3. Locker Rooms will be closed Aug. 27-29. Members who rent lockers will need to remove locks and belongings during this time. Vogel Fieldhouse, racquetball courts and fitness facilities will be open as usual or posted hours during this time.

Final Monday Night Concert in German Park for the season is Aug. 27 starting at 7 p.m. Musical entertainment by Lonny Carpenter; The Preacher and His Band of Men!

Fit and Strong! Arthritis Management and Prevention Program for older adults or persons with lower extremity osteoarthritis (OA). It combines flexibility, strength training and aerobic waking with health education for sustained behavior change. Expect to gain a clear understanding of what osteoarthritis is and how physical activity that is tailored to the needs of persons with arthritis can help them manage arthritis symptoms. Learn to perform safe stretching, balance, aerobic and strengthening exercises. Groups meet every Friday from 8 to 9:15 a.m. for 6 weeks beginning Sept. 7. Register online or at the Rec Center.

Hermannfest – Saturday, Sept. 8 with Live musical entertainment starting at 11:30 a.m. in Hermann Heights Park, followed by Cannon firing and “Thunder in the Valley” 1812 Overture by the New Ulm Battery, Municipal Band in Harman Park starting at 6 p.m. Lots of fun, food, and Gemutlichkeit followed by spectacular fireworks display over Hermann Monument at approximately 8:30 p.m. Be sure to catch live music by Tim Machine starting at 7:45 p.m. in Harman Park and continuing after the fireworks!

Youth Volleyball and Flag Football start Sept. 8 and 9, respectively. Register online or at the Rec Center!

Ballroom Dance Class for beginners Saturdays in Sept.; 9, 15, 22 and 29 from 9-11 a.m. at State Street Theater. Introduction to Foxtrot, English Waltz, and Waltz. If time allows, beginnings of the polka will be added. Fee: $75/couple resident or $82.50/couple non-resident. Register online or at the Rec Center.

Weight Lifting Classes for Women and Seniors will be offered in September. These classes are designed to approach strength training in a safe, effective and fun way to keep you strong fir life. Register online or at the Rec Center. Additional information available online.

Adult Swim Lessons will be offered Tuesday evenings Sept. 18 through Oct. 16 from 5:15 to 5:55 p.m. Class will help participants gain basic aquatic skills and improve proficiency, as well as swimming strokes. Class will teach skills and concepts needed to stay safe in and around water and be able to help themselves or others in an aquatic emergency. Participants must be comfortable in chest-deep water and able to put face in water. Register online or at the Rec. Center

NETA and Park and Rec. Group Fitness Training Opportunity! The following nationally- recognized workshops will take place at the Rec Center in the Herbeck Rooms. To register, go to: https://www.netafit.org/certifications/specialty/ We will offer:

Barre Connect Specialty Certification Saturday, Sept. 22 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Learn the fundamentals necessary to design safe and effective multi-level Barre Connect classes. Leave with a deep understanding of the science, technique and four main components behind Barre Connect. Discover how to connect the components of Ballet and Dance Technique, Yoga Postures, Functional Strength Exercises and Cardio Training to create a FUN, total body workout. Fee is $189.

Medicine Ball Power Sunday, Sept. 23 from 8 am.-1 p.m. Needed in various sports and activities, the medicine ball is a great power training tool! Learn a wide variety of medicine ball exercises and strategies to incorporate medicine balls into group exercise classes, group training session or one-on-one with clients. Participants learn to easily develop workouts that balances strength and power. Fee is $119.

Open Pickleball at Rec Center Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-2:30 p.m. Memberships, Punch cards, cards or Daily Admission apply.

Outdoor Pickleball courts at Lincoln park offer open play Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00-8:00 p.m. There is a lock box in Lincoln Park with equipment to use. Please call 507-359-8347 for the code to access.

Joey is an extraordinary Park and Rec. professional and we will definitely miss him, but we wish him all the very best as he takes on his new role as Director of Recreation and Leisure Services for the City of St. Peter.
