Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial Area’s Nick Slater becomes the third Nicollet wrestler to win a state championship, coming in first at 189 pounds while helping his team to a third-place finish in the 2025 team state tournament.

On Jan. 17, 2025, Cedar Mountain’s Aubrey Steffl scored 22 points to surpass Shannon Dallenbach’s career points record for Cedar Mountain girls basketball, a record that has stood since 1991. Steffl added to that point total in the 2025-26 season to surpass Tyler Pendleton for the overall school scoring record. Other record breakers include Sleepy Eye’s Landon Wendinger who set a plethora of school records including career rebounds (1,126), career blocks (444), single-season rebounds (487), single-season blocks (169), single-season field goals made (249), blocks in a game (10) and rebounds in a game (29).

Also during the 2024-25 winter season, the Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s girls basketball team, led

by state-scoring leader Morgan Mathiowetz, advanced to the 2025 state tournament, where the

Knights won its first-round matchup against Sacred Heart in a wire-to-wire thriller. St. Mary’s

eventually finished fourth in the tournament. The New Ulm girls basketball team and the Madelia

boys basketball team also advanced to their respective section finals matchups, but fell just short

of making the state tournament.

SPRING

United’s Sam Price won her third consecutive All-Journal Girls Golfer of the year and helped SEU advance to the state tournament for the fourth consecutive season. The Wabasso softball team also captured the Section 3A title to advance to the state tournament, while New Ulm softbal finished as section runners-up.

FALL

The 2025 Fall season saw more school records set. Cathedral outside hitter Shay Wilfahrt earned the

The New Ulm Boys soccer team made their first-ever state tournament with a 2-1 win

over Worthington on October 14. While New Ulm fell in the first round to St. Paul Como Park, the

tournament marked a piece of history for the players and for the school.
