Follow the lights

Looking for some festive light displays — here’s a few recommendations

418 N Washington St.

For some, one of the best parts of the holiday season is wandering around neighborhoods enjoying the festive lighting put on display by those who enjoy the Christmas Spirit.

In the past, The Facebook Page: New Ulm Tour of Lights has been a place for people to list their addresses for those who wish to find some of the best light displays in the city. Unfortunately, the list has not been updated for this season, but many of the same addresses still put up their decorations for the enjoyment of those looking for for Christmas cheer.

This year, The Journal reccommends a few key locations to visit to those looking to tour the city for Christmas lights.

North Washington Street is a great place to start, with several addresses putting up excellent displays, not only in lights but lawn decorations as well. Don’t forget to visit 1200 N 12th Street where, if you tune into 88.1 FM on the radio, the lights display with sync to the music playing, before heading to Payne Street, where 126 North Payne Street is home to inflatable Santa Clause and giant snowman decorations. Other locations on Payne street also host interesting and unique decorations.

South Franklin Street is also worth looking down, with residents in the 1400 and 1600 blocks putting up impressive lights and decorations. After looking here, it would be worth looking back to Payne Street, this time on the north end of town, for a look at the 1700 block, where houses host brightly lit animals and trees alike.

1013 Southridge St.

Southridge Road off of Summit Avenue is home to quite a few houses with large light displays, from Santa in his sleigh to moving colorful lights to houses wrapped in chains of colored bulbs, many of the residents have gone all out for the season. Be sure to loop around Crestview Drive at the end to see a few more decorated homes before heading back.
