Spooky vibes
Believe it or not, it is October, so it’s time to think about celebrating Halloween. The library has some new Halloween, supernatural and ghostly books on the shelf. Come and take a look!
If you like to crochet cute stuffies, you will want to check out Cute ‘N’ Creepy Crochet: 20+ Easy Amigurumi Patterns for Scary Creatures, Cuddly Cryptids, Sinister Slashers, Dangerous Dragons and More! by Donielle Broderick (746.43 Broderi). The patterns call for easy-to-find bulky yarn and take very little time to complete. I can’t pick a favorite; they are all so cute. You will want to make more than one, so you should get started today!
If you are planning an epic Halloween party, I have the ultimate spooky planning guides for you. Scare-Cuterie: Charcuterie, Snacks, Nibbles & Boards with a Spine-Tingling Twist by Lori Castellon (641.812 Castell) shows you how to make downright freaky snack boards that will impress everyone on your party list. Let’s continue the party prep with some cocktails, both with and without spirits. Spooky Cocktails: 100+ Spirited & Wickedly Delicious Drinks by Clair McLafferty (641.874 McLaffe) will share all the how-tos and supplies you will need to make wickedly spooky drinks for your guests.
Maybe you need some spooky stories to get you in the Halloween spirit. First off, you can’t do ghostly, supernatural tales without checking out Chad Lewis. The Most Gruesome Hauntings of the Midwest by Chad Lewis (133.1 Lewis) shows you that truth can certainly be more disturbing than fiction when the stories happen close to home. Supernatural Dares of the Midwest, also by Chad Lewis (1331.1 Lewis), encourages you to travel the Midwest and stop at the locations listed and follow the instructions for the dare. You may want to wear comfortable shoes in case you need to make a quick exit! If you still need more ghostly tales from your home state, we have the second edition of Mysterious Minnesota: Digging Up the Ghostly Past at Thirteen Haunted Sites by Adrian Lee (133.1 Lee). If you think you are up for it, go ahead and visit these locations, but be forewarned, you may get more than you bargained for.
Coming Soon: The History of Trick or Treating DVD.
