Off the Shelf

Did you know?

Did you know that New Ulm Public Library has many historical resources available for in-library use? Visit staff at our service desk and they would be happy to retrieve any of these items for you.

We have many yearbooks from local schools, including New Ulm Public (Elementary – High School), Riverbend Area Learning Center, Cathedral High School, Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School and one copy of the Excelsior from Dr. Martin Luther College (1966). It is not a complete collection, but we might have the years that interest you. You can easily find them in our catalog by searching for “New Ulm school yearbooks,” and choosing the one you are looking for, or just ask us and we will help.

If you would like to browse New Ulm Polk City Directories or plat books from surrounding counties, we have them dating back to the 1960s for the New Ulm directories and the 1970s for the plat books. Again, it is not a complete collection.

You can browse several historic atlases for Brown County, Minnesota, and the United States. Speaking of historical books, we have many books on New Ulm, Brown County, and Minnesota history. If you are looking for something specific, or not so specific, just ask.

If you are interested in browsing local historical newspapers, we can help. We have bound or microfilm copies from 1858 through the present. You can find a list of all our periodicals on our website (newulmlibrary.org) under Special Collections ~ Subscriptions. Also found under subscriptions is “Gopher Historian” (Fall 1954 – 1965) and “Minnesota History” magazine (1926 – present).

You never know what you might find at the library. If we don’t have what you are looking for we will do our best to find it for you from another library.

New Ulm Public Library is located at 17 North Broadway and is open Monday-Thursday from 9:30 a.m.-8 p.m. and Friday-Saturday from 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m
