Library Updates

We’re looking forward to a busy autumn at the library.

The Library Board’s Strategic Planning Committee continues to work on writing our new strategic plan. The committee is currently working on forming goals and objectives. The goals and objectives we set will be the overarching framework we will use when determining which actions we’ll take during the next 5-7 years to deliver on our mission and vision. The committee will next meet on Monday, September 25 at 2 p.m. Please reach out to Library Director April Ide at 507-359-8331 if you are interested in learning more about this process.

We will complete our five year carpet replacement project the week of September 25-29 when we replace the

carpet on the main library’s upper floor. The entire floor will be closed while the work is in progress; the rest of the library will remain open. Library staff will fulfill any requests on the materials housed on that floor once the

work is complete. We waited to complete this phase of carpet replacement until after the skylight and roof over that

section of the library were replaced. Both projects were completed in 2022.

We’re excited to add a new

type of book to our collection: Vox books! Vox books are books for young readers that include a Vox reader device

that turns a print book into an all-in-one read-along. No need for computers, tablets, or CDs – young readers can simply push one button to start enjoying a read-along story. This is a powerful tool for engaging reluctant or struggling readers. You can find these Vox books in our Children’s Room.

WCCO Meteorologist Mike Lynch will be our special guest for an Eclipse Watch Party on Saturday, October 14 at 10:30 a.m. in Highland Park. He’ll share information about eclipses while we watch this rare event. A limited number

of eclipse glasses will be available for free at the event, one pair per family. If it’s too cloudy to see the eclipse, we’ll meet in the library’s meeting room to enjoy Lynch’s presentation.

We’re also pleased to introduce a new Sensory Playtime program. Join us on Thursday, October 19 at 10 a.m. for stories, songs, and lots of sensory play. This program is for children and their

caregivers. Space is limited and registration is required.

Visit www.newulmlibrary.org for more information and to register. New Ulm Public Library is located at 17 N Broadway
