Kevin J. Kauffman of New Ulm, a senior at Iowa State University, has achieved academic ranking in the top 2 percent of students in the College of Engineering at Iowa State University.

Dominic Becker was recognized during Student Awards Celebration at the University of Minnesota Crookston.

The annual Student Awards Program, a celebration of student service, leadership, and academic and athletic achievement, was held recently at the University of Minnesota Crookston.

Becker a senior from Brownton, majoring in Animal Science and Agricultural Business was recognized with President’s Volunteer Service Award.

Concordia University in Seward, Neb. awarded degrees to 316 graduates in May 2015.

Honored students included Rebekah Esther Dorothy Holten, Nicollet, B.S.Ed., L.T.D.

Minnesota State University Moorhead awarded degrees to more than 940 students during its spring commencement program Friday, May 15.

Area graduates included:

Spencer Goodrich-Holland, New Ulm, Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice.

Paul Younger, Morton, Master of Business Administration.

Nicholas Braam of New Ulm was among the South Central College students who won honors at the Business Professionals of America 2015 National Leadership Conference, May 6-10 in Anaheim, Calif.

Braam finished 6th in Systems Administration Using Cisco, and was part of the 5th place Network Design Team with Trenton VanderWert of Sherburn.

Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Ind., announces that Erin Reinhart, class of 2015, a chemistry major from Courtland, was awarded a National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship. This fellowship is given to individuals based on their demonstrated potential for significant achievements in science and engineering.

Reinhart is the first Saint Mary’s student to be awarded this fellowship, which will cover tuition for graduate school and a stipend for living expenses. She will attend Dartmouth College in the fall to work towards a PhD in chemistry. At Dartmouth, she hopes to continue research she started at Saint Mary’s. Her long-term goal is to be a professor at a college or university.

“It is an honor to be the first Saint Mary’s student to be awarded the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship. It speaks to the caliber of the education provided at Saint Mary’s College that its students can compete and win at a national level,” Reinhart said.

Reinhart’s research focuses on the hypothesis that age-related diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease are caused by exposure to heavy metals in childhood. Reinhart and Kathryn Haas, assistant professor of chemistry and physics, received a Student Independent Study and Research (SISTAR) grant in 2014 for the project. SISTARs are awarded to faculty-student pairs to conduct research during the summer.

The NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) is a critical program in NSF’s overall strategy to develop the globally engaged workforce necessary to ensure the nation’s leadership in advancing science and engineering research and innovation. The program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students who are pursuing research-based masters and doctoral degrees in science and engineering. The GRFP provides three years of support for the graduate education of individuals who have demonstrated their potential for significant achievements in science and engineering.

Morgan Streich of Brownton has been awarded a scholarship to The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth. Streich was awarded the Benedictine Scholarship.

The Benedictine Scholarship is available to all new St. Scholastica applicants and is based on merit.

Dylan Bendix, son of John and Heidi Bendix, Courtland, received the North Dakota State University Presidential Honor Scholarship. The scholarship recognizes high academic achievement.

Bendix will enter NDSU in the fall and plans to major in psychology and minor in biotechnology. In high school, Bendix was active in knowledge bowl.

The following students have been named to the Dean’s List at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse for the spring semester of the 2014-15 academic year, ending May 2015.

To be eligible, students must have earned not less than a 3.5 semester grade point average and have carried a minimum of 12 semester credits.

Morningside College has announced the students who were named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester of the 2014-15 academic year.

The list includes Carlie M. Maasz, Sleepy Eye, a junior majoring in business administration.

The Dean’s List recognizes students who achieve a 3.67 grade point average or better and complete at least 12 credits of coursework with no grade below a “C-.”

Michaela Otterstatter of New Ulm, a junior, has been named to Wisconsin Lutheran College’s Dean’s List for the spring semester.

To be eligible for Dean’s List, a student must carry a semester GPA of 3.6 or higher.

Wisconsin Lutheran College is an independent, residential, Christian liberal arts college located on the border of Milwaukee and Wauwatosa.

Lydia Balge of New Ulm, a student in the College of Letters and Science, was named to the Dean’s List at The University of Wisconsin-Madison for the spring semester of the 2014-2015 academic year.

Crystal Wiethoff of Fairfax has been named to the Minnesota State University Moorhead dean’s list in recognition of academic achievement spring semester 2015. Students must maintain a 3.25 or higher grade point average and carry 12 graded credits to qualify for the honor.
