Irish pair jigs it up for St. Pat In New Ulm

Hermann the Irish HERMANN THE GERMAN helped lead off the New Ulm St. Patrick’s Day Parade Wednesday. “Hermann’ is Charles of 1826 Creative.

The Irish were whopping it up at Restaurant Eibner Thursday night.

A Mankato couple, Dr. and Mrs. Michael Howard of Mankato, brought a busload of 36 friends to eat, imbibe and celebrate from 9a.m. to noon.

They were celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, since both the Howards are 100 per cent Irish.

But they also were celebrating the birthday of Mrs. Howard, who carries an Irish first name Colleen.

“THEY HAD a ball,” said Gerhardt Christ, proprietor of Restaurant Eibner. “I don’t know if they’ll be here next year, but I wouldn’t be surprised.”

One couple got up during the evening to display a fancy Irish jig.

The New Ulm Concord singers entertained the group.

There were about 100 persons on Eibner’s second level, participating in the festivities, Christ said.

DR. HOWARD said there is no special reason he and his wife came to Restaurant Eibner to celebrate.

“They’ve got good food, they have enough room for us, and it’s just a place to have a good time.”

Dr. and Mrs. Howard celebrated their two Irish Holidays two years ago at the New Ulm restaurant. Dr. Howard isn’t sure about the future.

“We’re not going to make this monotonous,” he said. “But we’re going to keep our options open.”
