During the past week the city police force and the sheriff’s office have have been rather busy and as a result the county hotel now has a total of eleven guests, serving from thirty to ninety days. One of the prisoners was released Saturday after serving a sixty day sentence. but the addition of another one on Monday left the total at eleven.

Kretsch Shoots Son

The most serious of the offenses and one which might have turned out far worse was the shooting fray in the Herman Kretsch home Friday evening shortly after six o’clock. Mr. Kretsch had gone on a “tear” and had imbibed a little too much moonshine. He was upstairs in the family’s living quarters above the Tivoli, which he operates, when the family heard a shot. Mrs. Kretsch went up and found her husband flourishing a revolver. She was followed by her son and as they tried to take the gun away from him a shot was accidentally fired which struck the boy in the right thigh just above the knee. It was only a flesh wound, however, and did not turn out serious. Dr.Vogel was called and he attended to the wound, taking the boy to the hospital. John Herzog happened to pass the place shortly after the accident happened and he immediately arrested Kretsch. Saturday morning a hearing was held before Justice Pfaender and after pleading guilty Kretsch was sentenced to serve ninety days in the county jail.

Chicken Thieves Caught

Saturday morning Tom Foy of near Sanborn and Leo Maurer and Clifford Honl of Sleepy Eye were brought before Justice Fred Pfaender of this city charged with stealing chickens. They confessed to taking the poultry from three different places and selling them to Stork Bros. of this city. This was done on two different occasions, the first time being on December 19 and the next time four days later. Each of the trio, none of whom have attained their majority, was compelled to refund the money they received from the chickens to the parties from whom they took the chickens and in addition thereto were charged up with $26.26 costs each. The justice also sentenced them to serve sixty days each in the county jail.

Cook Pays Fine

Wm. Cook, who was found guilty of possession and sale of moonshine at the last term of the district court and who was given a sentence of sixty days in the county jail and a fine of $200, at first elected to serve another sixty days in place of paying the fine. After the county attorney, however, served papers attaching the farm in order to collect payment of the fine Cook changed his mind and paid the required $200 plus costs. He had already served six of the additional sixty days which he would have had to serve had he not paid the fine.

Pregler Pleads Guilty

Otto Pregler, who was caught selling moonshine and whose place was raided by the Sheriff several weeks ago, pleaded guilty to the charge against him before Judge Olson Monday morning and was given a fine of $100 and sixty days in jail. In case the fine is not paid an additional thirty days will be added to the jail sentence.

John Carlson appeared before Justice Henningsen and agreed to pay his wife a certain amount of alimony per month pending the litigation of divorce proceedings which he has started against his wife.
