Hot water, cold ice

STEAM RISES from one of the ice hockey rinks in Westside Park as New Ulm Parks and Recreation Department employees spray hot water on the ice. Hot water is used because it blends in better with the ice than does cold water, officials said. Harold Derdan, 721 Second S., sprays the ice while Dave Hillesheim, 1400 N. State, holds the hose.
