Teachers In Districts Are All Product Of This County.

Brown County has improved the school buildings in the rural districts during the past summer by building three new school houses and remodeling one to meet the requirements of modern structures. Architect Albert G. Plagens of this city drew the plans for all of the buildings and local contractors drew a goodly portion of the contracts awarded for the work. At the present time, according to County Superintendent of Schools, R.B. Kennedy, the building program is going forward and several projects are under consideration.

Two Brick Structures

In District 74 a new frame structure with a full basement was completed in time for the opening of school September 1. The school room accommodates 40 pupils. W. D. Eller of Morgan was awarded the general contract in the sum of $4,938 complete. Ewald Golesky, a Brown county product, is the teacher in this district. Puhlman Bros. of this city were given the general construction contract for the new brick school house in District 29 in the town of Prairieville. The cost of the building will be $7,474.The American Foundry & Furnace Co., of Bloomington, Ill., are installing a heating and ventilating plant costing $954. Chemical toilets and lavatories will be installed by the Hose Plumbing Company of Sleepy Eye at a cost of $398. The brick structure has a full basement. The first floor is given over to the arrangement of a large class room which will accommodate 40 pupils. A library, toilet rooms for both girls and boys and a large cloak room are also arranged on that floor. In the basement a kitchen has been provided and this is a great asset to the pupils and their teacher. The building will be ready for occupancy by December 15. Alfred G. Pelzel of this county is the teacher.

Miss Rose Lipp is the teacher in District school No. 65 in Burnstown township. The school house is being built after the same plan as the one in District 29. The general contract was given to McGough Brothers o St. Paul in the sum of $7,690 and the building will be ready for occupancy by December 20.

Remodel Frame Building

The Clear Lake school in District No. 6 in the town of Sigel was completely remodeled, making the building a modern lighted school house. A new foundation made of cement blocks purchased from the Saffert Cement Construction Company of New Ulm was put in and the entire building was re plastered. The windows were changed so as to allow the light to enter the school room from one side only. A room was arranged for a library and a large cloak room was provided. The building was then given a coat of paint on the exterior and now presents a most satisfying appearance. Lester Schroeder of New Ulm is the teacher in that district.

Teachers Reside In County

It will be interesting to note that the teachers in the four districts are all residents of Brown County and this shows the interest the young people of the county are taking in education as their profession.
